The BIRN compute cluster consists of 32 dual processor 2 Ghz AMD Opteron compute nodes running the Linux operating system with 4 Gb of physical RAM. The compute cluster is managed via the Condor resource management software, which not only ensures fair access to compute cycles but collects usage information for more detailed resource planning in the future.
